Research on Nilphamari origin Black Bengal goats on MAU

NILPHAMARI, Oct 28: An initiative to upgrade and produce high quality goats known as Black Bengal goats of Nilphamari origin had been undertaken by Mymensingh Agriculture University (MAU).
Sources said MAU has been conducting research on artificial insemination of this particular species of Black Bengal to upgrade its quality.
The MAU have already collected some black goats from Nilphamari, Tangail, Mymen-singh and Kushtia districts.
The University is conducting research on the semen of these black goats to produce better quality and thereby to produce high quality Black Bengal by applying artificial insemination.
Later, this frozen semen will be stored for use in different livestock offices in the districts across the country. Sources add that this species of Black Bengal of Nilphamari are disease free, provide more meat, good in nutrition, the skin is valuable, the dung pellets are good manure and it gives more milk.
This kind of goats is less expensive to rear, gives birth to three to four kids at a time and it gives birth twice a year.
Due to all these attributes this species of goats are widely recommended as a tool of poverty reduction in Bangladesh.
