Revision of the expatriates' welfare and overseas employment policy made aiming at ensuring workers' rights, wellbeing and rehabilitation is at final stage.
The ministry of expatriates' welfare and overseas employment has recently completed the draft of the revised policy and is likely to place it before the cabinet meeting next week for vetting.
Officials said the draft of the expatriates' welfare and overseas employment policy was completed in 2013 after making some revisions to the first policy 2006.
But it took long time to get comments from different ministries concerned as per the recommendations put forward by the cabinet, they added.
"We have now got comments from all ministries concerned such as home, social welfare and foreign affairs. And we also completed the compilation of those with the revised policy," said an official.
To focus on the welfare of workers and their rehabilitation after their return, the name of the policy has been changed as expatriates' welfare and overseas employment policy instead of overseas employment policy, the official added.
The ministry took initiative to revise overseas employment policy 2006 with support from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to bring a wide range of labour issues under the purview of the policy.
Under the project "Promoting Decent Work through Improved Migration Policy and its Application in Bangladesh", the ILO supports to revisions aiming at maximising the beneficial impact of labour migration on economic development and improving protection standards for Bangladeshi migrant workers.
"The scenario of the labour market has drastically been changed since the first policy was drafted.
