March 09, 2025 00:00:00

The interim government has appointed Md Riazul Islam as the new chairman of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) for a two-year term, reports bdnews24.com.

He will replace Md Siddiqur Rahman Sarkar.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Saturday, confirming Riazul's contractual appointment under The Town Improvement Act, 1953.

He is currently serving as a member (planning) at RAJUK, the development authority of Dhaka city.

The notification, signed by Deputy Secretary Md Touhid Bin Hasan, said Riazul must relinquish any professional engagement with other organisations, whether public, private, or semi-governmental, before assuming the role.

The terms of his contract will be determined by a formal agreement.

Siddiqur was appointed as RAJUK chairman on a contractual basis on Apr 8, 2023.

After the interim government took charge, the contract was cancelled on Sept 19, 2024.

However, another notification on Sept 22 reinstated him, overturning the earlier decision.
