Rich people urged to extend support for street children

The speakers at a function Monday urged the well-to-do section of people to come forward to extend support for the street children for their better livelihood, reports BSS.
Around 0.4 million street children in the capital have been earning their livelihood in a miserable condition, they said adding that development efforts might suffer if they did not get the support.
They also stressed the need for bringing street children to the mainstream development providing them with necessary support like health, education and shelters for the overall economic development of the country.
The speakers made the observation while speaking at a function jointly organised by Population Service Training Centre (PSTC) and Plan Bangladesh in observance of the Independence Day.
An annual prize-giving ceremony for the street children was also held on the occasion on Balur Math at Bashaboo in the city.
Saber Hossain Chowdhury, MP addressed the function as the chief guest while Amader Ghar president Chitta Ranjan Das presided over the function.
Regional executive officer of region-4 of Dhaka City Corporation Abdul Kalam Azad, social development adviser of Plan Bangladesh Jinath Afroz, executive director of PSTC Prof Milon Bikash Paul and president of Bangladesh Buddhish Culture Publicity Association Srimoth Shuddhananda Mohathero and local elite addressed the function.
Saber Hossain said the street children, who were legging far behind the development process, must be provided with necessary support for their socio-economic development.
Some 500 street children recited from poems, staged dramas and rendered songs at the function. Later, the best performers got prizes.
