Rickshawpuller fails to repay loan, attempts suicide in city

A rickshaw-puller, who failed to repay regularly the installments of a loan he had borrowed for treatment of his wife, attempted to end his life in the city's Narda area Friday, reports UNB.
The victim was identified as Rezaul Karim Bepari (40), son of late Enayet Bepari of Doridaspur village in Gaibandha. He along with his rickshaw-puller son Biplab (18), had been living in a garage at Narda under Gulshan Police Station.
Rezaul tried to slit his throat with a blade near his rickshaw garage at about 1:30 pm.
Biplab rescued his father and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in a critical condition at about 2:30 pm.
Talking to reporters at the DMCH, Biplab said Rezaul had borrowed Tk 80,000-90,000 from two NGOs and several individuals for surgery to treat the uterus cancer of his wife Bilkis Begum few months back.
"My father who is himself sick had to pay Tk 800-900 weekly as a loan installment. It became difficult for him to pay the installment regularly after bearing the family expenses," Biplab said.
