FE Report | June 15, 2015 00:00:00

Caram Asia, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), along with some other human rights organisations has expressed deep concern over human trafficking from the Asian subcontinent.

The organisations also urged the government to take initiatives to bring the trafficking victims back home, rehabilitate them and formulate necessary laws to prevent such incidences, said a press release.

Led by Caram Asia, family members of missing people, representatives from different NGOs including Migration Development Programme (OCAP), Ain O Shalish Kendra, BRAC, WAROBI and BOMSA placed the demands to the Human Rights Commission on Sunday.

The human rights activists also launched a signature campaign to prevent human trafficking and urged the government to meet the demands immediately.

The demands include rescue of the boatpeople stranded at sea, making list of missing Bangladeshis, taking steps to bring them back and providing the trafficking victims with financial support.

Besides, they demanded capital punishment for the people involved with human trafficking, arrest of human traffickers and middleman, and carrying out a joint investigation into human trafficking.
