Rights groups call for UN action against Israel

Rights activists in the city urged Thursday the UN Security Council and global leaders to take necessary steps to stop the killings of innocent people in Gaza by Israel, reports UNB.

They said Israel is killing innocent people, including children and women, and conducting destruction in Gaza , denying the international community's ceasefire proposal.

The rights activists were addressing a human chain programme jointly arranged by Poribesh Bachao Andolon (Poba), Citizens' Rights Protection Forum, United Peace Foundation (UPF), Bangladesh Green Movement, Modern Club, Greenmind Society and Pallima Green in front of the National Press Club in the city..

Speaking on the occasion, Poba executive general secretary Engr Abdus Sobhan said Israel is carrying out attacks on Palestinian people due to the USA and the western countries' biasness to Israel and negligence about Palestinians.

Poba joint-general secretary Hafizur Rahman, its secretary Advocate Hasan Tarique Chowdhury and coordinator Atique Morshed, Modern Club president Abul Hasnat, Bangladesh Peace Movement president Prof Kamal Ataur Rahman and BCHRD executive director Mahbubul Haque, among others, spoke at the human chain programme.
