Road crashes claim 16 lives during Eid

At least 16 people were killed in separate road accidents in different districts during Eid holiday, report agencies.

In Tangail, two people were killed and 15 others injured as a bus fell into a ditch on Dhaka-Tangail highway on Friday.

The identities of the victims could not be known yet.

Witnesses said the bus fell into a ditch as the driver of the Dhaka- bound bus lost control over the steering near Hatia bus stand area around 1:00 pm.

In Gopalganj, a mother and her son were killed and two others injured in a road accident in Char Pathalia area under Sadar upazila of the district on the Dhaka-Khulna highway on Saturday afternoon.

The dead are Maryam Begum (42), wife of Tar Ali Mollah, resident of Dakshin Fukra village in Kashiani upazila and her son, private car driver Mahidul Mollah (25).

Md Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gopalganj Sadar thana, said eight members of the same family were returning to their home in Dakshin Phukra village of Kashiani upazila after visiting Tungipara in a private car.

In Bogura, a 23-year-old college student died after he lost control of his speeding bike and crashed into a private car on the Bagura-Dhaka highway in Majhira of Shajahanpur upazila on Friday afternoon.

The dead is Noor Nabi, a student of Bagura Government Azizul Haque College.

Witnesses said Noor Nabi who drove his bike at a high speed lost control of the two-wheeler, colliding head-on with the car coming from the opposite direction in the Majhira port area.

Severely injured Noor Nabi was rushed to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital by passersby, where he succumbed to his injuries.

In Chapainawabganj, three paddy workers were killed and seven others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and an e-rickshaw in Nachole upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Saturday.

The dead are Rezaul Karim, son of Yunus Ali, Tosiqul Islam, son of Tajemul, and Alauddin Haque, son of Nazrul Islam of Gomostapur upazila.

The accident occurred at Dhansuramor around 9.30 am when the Nachole-bound truck carrying paddy hit the e-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction.

The impact of the collision was such that the e-rickshaw overturned, and Rezaul, Tosiqul and Alauddin died on the spot.

Cops were alerted by passersby and a team from the local police station and fire station rushed to the spot and sent the injured to Nachole Upazila Health Complex.

Five of the injured have been shifted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital as their condition is said to be critical, police said.

In Chattogram, two people died as their bikes collided in Rangunia Upazila of Cattogram on Friday. The dead are Rashedul Islam (17) and Uzzal Barua (50).

According to police sources, the collision happened when one of the bikes tried to overtake an auto-rickshaw.

The victims were rushed to the local medical facility where the on duty doctors declared them dead.

In Faridpur, a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a road divider of Bagail Toll Plaza of Asian Expressway at Bhanga in Faridpur on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Mizanur Rahman Babul (55), a manager of Uddipan Social Welfare Organisation of BRAC in Bramhanbaria district.

In Chattogram, two women lost their lives in a road accident in Mirsarai upazila of Chattogram on Thursday.

Three more got injured in the accident and two of them are currently admitted in Chattogram Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

The deceased could not be identified yet by police.

In Gazipur, two people, including a member of RAB-4, were killed when a microbus hit a vehicle of the elite force on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur on Wednesday.

The dead is Mohammad Khairul Islam, a member of RAB-4, and motor mechanic Liton Mia.

Meanwhile, a rickshaw puller was killed as a speeding car hit his rickshaw on Basabo flyover in the capital's Sabujbagh on Wednesday morning.

The identity of the deceased, aged about 35 could not be ascertained yet.
