At least 20 people were killed in separate road accidents in Jhenaidah, Munshiganj, Panchagarh, Laxmipur, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Narayanganj districts Friday, reports UNB.
Of them, five were killed in Mymensingh while four in Jhenaidah and Munshiganj each, three in Narayanganj, two in Sylhet and one each was killed in Laxmipur and Panchagarh.
In Mymensingh, five people were killed in a collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj highway in Raghabpur area of sadar upazila in the evening.
Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The bus collided with the auto-rickshaw around 7pm, leaving three people dead on the spot and three others injured, said Abu Mohammad Fazlul Karim, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station.
The injured were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where two of them succumbed to their injuries.
In Jhenaidah, at least four people were killed and five others injured when a truck rammed a human hauler (tempo) on Jhenaidah-Kushtia road at Dudshar in Shailakupa upazila in the early hours.
The deceased were identified as Shafiuddin, Rezaul Islam, Mujibar Rahman of Kanapukuria village, and Amirul Islam of Charpara village in the upazila.
Witnesses said the truck hit the tempo in the area around 6am, leaving its four passengers killed on the spot and five others injured.
Of the injured, three were sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital while the others were admitted to sadar hospital.
In Munshiganj, four people, including a woman and her son, were killed and two others injured as a truck rammed two CNG-run auto-rickshaws in Jamaldhi bus stand area in Gazaria upazila at noon.
The deceased were identified as Rani Saha, 50, her son Protaya Saha, 12, of Nadiabad village of Debidwar upazila of Comilla, and two auto-rickshaw drivers Kalu Miah, 38, and Mantu Miah, 40.
In Narayanganj, three people, including a man and his minor daughter, were killed as a truck rammed a battery-run auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Narayanganj link road in Bhuigarh area under Fatullah Model Police Station in the evening.
Two of the deceased were identified as Alauddin, 37, and his daughter Sumaiya, 7.
In Sylhet, a soil-laden truck hit two motorcycles on Biswanath-Jagannathpur road at Bagichhabazar in Biswanath upazila around 5pm, leaving two bikers Noman Ahmed, 16, of Noagaon village in the upazila, and Khaled, 15, of the same village, dead.
In Laxmipur, a local journalist was killed as a tractor rammed his motorcycle on Laxmipur-Raipur road in Basabari area of Raipur upazila at noon.
The deceased was identified as Islam Uddin Bappy, the local correspondent of the Dainik Protidin.
Police said the tractor hit the motorcycle of the journalist in the area, leaving him critically injured. However, he died on the way to the capital.
In Panchagarh, a tractor helper was killed as the tractor overturned at Natunbasti village of Tentulia upazila at noon.
The deceased was identified as Rajab Ali, 30, son of Rostam Ali of Sarialjot village of the upazila.
