Robber killed in encounter with police

KUSHTIA, Sept 15 (UNB): A notorious dacoit was killed in a shootout between his accomplices and police at Daudermor under Daulatpur Upazila early Saturday.
Acting on a tip off, police arrested Habil Mandal (28), wanted in a number of cases, including several murders, from Mathurapur of the upazila Friday evening.
As per his confessional statement, police along with Habil Mandal went to a sugarcane field at Daudermor to recover hidden firearms.
Sensing their presence, cohorts of Habil fired on them, forcing the law enforcers to fire back that triggered a gun-battle at about 1:30 am.
"Habil Mandal was caught in the line of fire while fleeing the scene," a police official said.
Doctors declared him dead when he was taken to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex.
