GAZIPUR, Dec 12 (BSS): An alleged terrorist and leader of a robber gang was killed in a gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Kaliganj Upazila here Friday.
RAB sources said the dead was identified as Selim (26), son of Nurul Islam of Choragram under Kaliganj Upazila. Selim was arrested from Kaliganj Thursday last.
Following confessional statement of Selim, members of the force took him to a pond of Kaliganj Sramik College to recover hidden firearms and ammunition.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the accomplices of Selim opened fire on them which was retaliated by RAB members. During the gun battle Selim was hit by a bullet and he died on the spot.
Other cohorts of Selim, however, managed to escape the scene. Later, the RAB recovered one foreign made pistol and two bullets from the spot.
