Rotary Int'l to build hospital in city

The Rotary International (RI) will build a general hospital in the city to provide healthcare services to the poor people free of cost, reports BSS.
The international voluntary organisation is also keen to extend their activities in Bangladesh especially in the sector of disaster preparedness.
This was revealed by visiting President-nominee of RI for the year 2011-12 Kalyan Banarjee when he paid a courtesy call on President Zillur Rahman Tuesday night at the Bangabhaban.
During the meeting, Kalyan Banarjee, an Indian national apprised the President about the successful endeavours of the RI in eradicating polio from the world.
Of the 125 countries, except India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria, 121 countries are now polio free due to the philanthropic efforts of the Rotarians across the globe, he said.
Mentioning that the RI received so far US$ 355 million from Bill Gates Foundation for its polio eradication programme, Banarjee said. "We express the hope that we will be able to make the globe totally polio free soon." President Zillur Rahman lauded the significant role of RI.
