RTHD seeks Tk 120.11b to implement mega projects

The Road Transport and Highways Division (RTHD) has sought an allocation of Tk 120.11 billion for the next fiscal year (FY) aiming to implement its different mega projects successfully, officials said.
The division has sent an estimation of Tk 120 billion for implementation of its various mega and public importance projects across the country for the next FY, they added.
The officials mentioned that some Tk 65.11 billion, Tk 20 billion, Tk 20 billion and Tk 15 billion would be required for different public importance projects, ongoing projects, roads and highways department and non-development expenditure respectively under different agencies.
An official said Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges M A N Siddique has recently sent a letter to Senior Secretary of Finance Division under the Ministry of Finance (MoF) Mahbub Ahmed.
 The government allocated Tk 79.11 billion to the division for the current FY. Of the total, some Tk 56.75 billion has been earmarked for development sector while Tk 22.36 billion for non-development sector, according to the letter.
"Some Tk 13.68 billion has been allocated to the division for maintenance and repair for the FY 2015-16," an official concerned said, adding that some Tk 80 billion will be required for maintenance and repair for the next FY.
Some 120 projects would continue in the next FY aiming to develop and expand the existing highways except mega and public importance projects, the data showed.
Besides, the division is undertaking and implementing new public importance projects apart from repairing and modification of the highway network. The division will need some Tk 65.11 billion to implement a good number of national importance projects in FY 2016-17, according to the data.
Currently, a number of projects undertaken by the Road Transport and Highways Division are being implemented under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the current FY.
Now there are over 21,571 kilometre highways, 4,507 bridges, 13,751 culverts and 49 ferry services under Roads and Highways Division.
