RU 9th convocation tomorrow

RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY: Rajshahi University (RU), the country's second largest public university, is in a festive mood ahead of its 9th convocation, to be held tomorrow (Sunday).

The main entrance, administrative buildings and several important places on the university campus have been decorated with colourful fluorescent illumination and artistry to convey warm welcome to graduates, guests and others.

The convocation stage at university stadium has been decorated with various handicrafts and chandeliers.

RU Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammed Mizan Uddin briefed media about the convocation preparation at Senate Bhaban on Friday. Pro-VC Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Treasurer Prof Sayen Uddin Ahmed, Register Prof Entajul Haque and Administrator of Public Relation Office Prof Elias Hossain were also present.

President and RU Chancellor Abdul Hamid will be present in the convocation as the chief guest. He will also inaugurate the newly-established Begum Fazilatunessa female hall.

Prominent geologist and Vice Chancellor of Delhi Jamia Milia Islamia Professor Talat Ahmad will be the convocation speaker.

A total of 4,771 alumni from 9 faculties and several institutes will receive their Masters, PhD, M Phil, MBBS, BDS and DVM degrees in the convocation, he said.

Cabinet members, MPs, foreign diplomats, among others, will attend the convocation. RU VC Prof Mizan Uddin said they are taking all kinds of preparations to make the convocation peaceful and successful.

Strict security measures have been taken on the occasion of convocation, he added.

The VC also urged the BNP-led 20-Party Alliance to keep the convocation out of strike and blockade programmes, so that the graduates can attend it peacefully.
