Speakers Sunday emphasised the need for accelerating the pace of rural development and poverty reduction, reports BSS.
They were speaking at the opening session of a week training course on 'Rural Development and Poverty Reduction' which began at the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) Comilla.
Some 88 participants of 42nd Foundation Training Course of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC), Dhaka of different cadres of civil services were taking part in the programme.
They said that the BARD would provide the participants with orientation on the evolution of rural development concepts and strategies and enhance their knowledge about theoretical and practical aspects of recent experiments on rural development in Bangladesh with special reference to the BARD experiments.
M Khairul Kabir, Director General of BARD inaugurated the training as the chairperson. He said that the role of civil servants in rural development and poverty reduction in the country is very vital.
They can contribute positively in nation-building activities through their sincere efforts, Kabir added.
