With the passing days, rush of the numbers of book readers including tiny-tots has been increasing at the Immortal Ekushey Book Fair on the premises of the city's Bangla Academy and its adjoining historic Suhrawardy Udyan, reports BSS.
Many guardians along with their offspring have thronged the book fair ground as it completed 10th day today. They are found roaming from one stall to another to procure books of their choice.
Talking to BSS correspondent, Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, the torch-bearer of the enlightened new generation movement, said, "I am feeling very good turning up at the book fair, where many tiny-tots are roaming. It will certainly help building the children of today with their mental nourishment acquainting them with books. I hope every parent will bring their wards to the fair with a view to growing their reading habit."
At the Nazrul Mancha of the fair ground, unveiling ceremony of 17 books was held while on the 10th day of the fair a total of 77 new books arrived which included 13 on stories, 17 on novels, two on articles, 17 on poetry, three each on biography and science, two on plays and six others on different subjects.
On the centre stage of the fair, a discussion on "Prof Ajit Kumar Guha" was held with journalist Kamal Lohani in the chair. The keynote paper on the topic was presented by Hayat Mahmud while cultural personality Ramendu Mazumdar, journalist Abed Khan and Mahbub Talukdar were the discussants.
A discussion on "Habibullah Bahar Chowdhury" will be held at the centre stage of the fair at 4 pm tomorrow. Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith will chair the discussion in which Salimullah Khan will present the keynote paper. Md Abdul Quiyyum, Kazi Modina and Khushi Kabir will be the discussants. Cultural function will be presented in the evening.
