FE REPORT

Dismissed trainee sub-inspectors (SIs) of the 40th (cadet) SI batch of Bangladesh Police staged on Monday a demonstration  outside Bangladesh Secretariat demanding reinstatement to their positions.

The protestors said that 321 sub-inspectors had been unfairly dismissed during their training period.

"We were discharged on trivial charges. This large-scale dismissal is unprecedented in the history of Police Academy Sardah. We demand justice and reinstatement to our jobs," said a protester, preferring not to be named.

He said that the dismissed SIs were labelled 'inattentive and disruptive' in class.

He added that they participated in the training for a year with immense sacrifice and they were not paid.

The 40th batch of cadet SIs included 823 trainees, who embarked on basic training on November 4, 2023 at the Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi. Over three phases, 313 trainees were reprimanded for alleged disruptive behaviour during field activities and classes.

The dismissed SIs claimed that the charges against them were baseless and demanded a reversal of the dismissal orders.

They said that such massive dismissal was unjust and unprecedented.

They said that they would continue their agitation unto death if their demand is not realised.

They demanded that the authorities take an effective measure immediately in favour of them.

Earlier, the exempted SIs held a peaceful demonstration on January 5 and 6 in front of the Home Ministry. A delegation of them also met with the home secretary.
