Saraswati Puja today

Saraswati Puja, the religious festival of the Hindu community, will be celebrated in the country today (Wednesday), reports UNB.

On the occasion, President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in separate messages greeted the Hindu community.

Every year, the puja is celebrated on the fifth day of the bright fortnight of the month of Magh as Goddess Saraswati was born on this day. The day is called 'Vasant Panchami'.

A press release adds: The Bankers Puja Parishad, Bangladesh celebrates the Saraswati Puja today (Wednesday) at Prabhu Jagathbandhu Mahaprakash Math at 42/2 Hatkhola Road in the city.

The organising committee will hold a cultural competition for children and youths, a discussion on the occasion and distribution of scholarships and prizes among meritorious students.

Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor SK Sur Chowdhury will be present as the chief guest while Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation Managing Director Debashish Chakrabarty  will be the special guest. Dhaka University Sanskrit Department's former chairman Niranjan Adhikary and incumbent chairman Chandana Rani Biswas, among others, will take part in the discussion.
