SAU teacher shot, robbed of Tk 0.78m

Muggers snatched Tk 0.78 million (Tk 7.8 lakh) after shooting a teacher of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) in city's Mohammadpur area in broad daylight on Thursday, police said.
The victim was identified as Parimal Kanti Biswas, a teacher of Agronomy Department of the university.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohammadpur police station Azizul Hoque said the incident took place about 12:45 pm near Dhaka Residential Model College.
Quoting witnesses and victim's relatives, the OC said the university teacher came under the gun attack while returning home after he withdrew the money from Mohammadpur post office.
The victim was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for treatment. "We're investigating the matter," he said without giving any further details.
Quoting the victim, Inspector (Investigation) of the police station Jane Alam Munshi said a gang of three muggers riding on a motorbike intercepted Mr. Biswas while he was going back to his residence on foot after he failed to hire rickshaw.
The criminals then demanded money from him. On refusal, one of the gang members shot him in the left leg and decamped with the booty.
"We're yet to arrest anyone in connection with the incident, but drives are on to hunt down the criminals," he added.
No case was filed till filing of this report at 7:30 pm.
