'Save children from adverse impact of climate change'

Speakers at a roundtable Thursday urged all to work from their respective positions to save the children from the adverse impact of global climate change, reports BSS.
They said necessary initiatives should be taken to tackle the threat of global climate change to safeguard our environment. Otherwise, the country would face many difficulties including health problems.
The roundtable on 'Climate Change: Impact on Children and Awareness' was organised by Children's Television Foundation of Bangladesh (CTFB) at Jatiya Press Club in the city.
Director General of Department of Environment (DoE) Nojibur Rahman addressed the roundtable as the chief guest, while Research Director of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) Dr M Asaduzzaman addressed it as the special guest.
M Aminul Islam of UNDP presented the keynote paper in the meeting.
Physicians, representatives and NGOs and donor agencies, and members of civil society, among others, took part in the open discussion.
Nojibur said many programmes are being taken in the national global climate change strategy plan to face the challenges of global climate change.
He said the government was very sincere to take any prompt measure to protect environment caused by global climate change and other factors.
The government is taking many awareness programmes on child health issues, he said seeking media cooperation in disseminating the programmes.
The impact of global climate change will continue for a long time, Asaduzzaman said urging all to work together to tackle its terrible effects.
