SC stays Toki murder accused Simanta\\\'s bail

The Supreme Court (SC) stayed Tuesday for two weeks the bail granted by the High Court (HC) to Tanvir Mohammad Toki murder case accused Saleh Rahman Simanta, reports UNB.

Chamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order following a petition filed by the state.

Advocate Jahirul Islam stood for the accused while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Deputy Attorney General Ekramul Haque Tutul represented the state.

On June 24, a vacation bench of the HC granted bail to Saleh Rahman Simanta. However, he was yet to release from jail.

Tanvir Mohammad Toki, 17, son of cultural activist Rafiur Rahman Rabbi, was found dead on March 8 last year. Later, Rabbi filed a case in this connection.

After 10 days on March 18, he submitted a written complaint to the superintendent of police against Shamim Osman, his son Ayon Osman, Jubo League leader Parvez, vice-president of District Chhatra League Rajib Das, general secretary Mizanur Rahman, Saleh Rahman Simanta and Rifat, saying they were involved in the murder.

Police arrested Simanta on April 18 last year.
