9th Wage Board

SC to hear NOAB chief's arguments on August 4

FE REPORT | July 02, 2024 00:00:00

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday fixed August 4 for hearing the arguments of Newspaper Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) President A K Azad over the disputed clauses of the Ninth Wage Board.

The apex court asked the NOAB president to place his arguments by himself or through his lawyer on August 4.

A three-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan, passed the order during hearing on two separate leave-to-appeal petitions.

The government filed these petitions, challenging the High Court (HC) verdict that declared illegal the cabinet committee's recommendations in the Ninth Wage Board.

On February 18, the apex court said it would hear the NOAB's arguments. The newspaper owners should have a scope to place their arguments regarding the matter.

Following a writ petition the HC on 6 November 2023 delivered the verdict.
