SCBA president wants reform in judiciary

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin on Wednesday said that the country's judiciary needs a large scale reform.
He further said, "Awami League government directly controlled the judiciary in last 16 years. Political consideration influenced trials of many of the judges. They also gave shelter many lawyers' syndicate. They need to be removed."
He made the comments in a press conference held at the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium on Wednesday.
Barrister Khokan said, "Judiciary needs immediate reform. 60 to 62 judges of the High Court division of the Supreme Court were not given any bench or jurisdiction and were kept under observation. I like to say that immediate steps should be taken against them."
He further said, "The interim government has not taken any step to appoint new judges. And we don't have any law or policy to recruit judges in the higher judiciary. I urge the government to take steps regarding these issues. Talent, honest, and competent persons should be recruited as judge."
