Schoolboy kidnapped from city found dead in Keraniganj

KERANIGANJ, Jun 11 (UNB): A minor schoolboy, who was kidnapped from Lalbagh area of the capital on Tuesday, was found dead at Kamrangirchar in Keraniganj, on the outskirts of the city, on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Rifat, 6, a class I student and son of Rafique Mia, a resident of Hossain Uddin Khan Lane of Lalbagh area.
RAB sources said Jewel, 26, a neighbour of Rifat, kidnapped him on Tuesday and demanded Tk one million (10 lakh) as ransom from Rifat's father over mobile phone.
Getting the phone call from the kidnappers, Rafique Mia informed the matter to Lalbagh Police Station and RAB-10.
Tracking the mobile phone of Jewel, a team of RAB-10 conducted a drive in Azimpur area and arrested Jewel on Wednesday night.
Later, Jewel confessed that he along with his three associates kidnapped Rifat and strangled him to death being failed to realise the ransom money.
Following the confessional statement of Jewel, the elite force members recovered the body of Rifat from near Madhumati Biscuit factory in Kamrangirchar around 7am.
