Emeritus Scientist Dr Kazi M Badruddoza Friday called upon the scientists to work together for strengthening country's food security and alleviate poverty, reports BSS.
He made this call while addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the two-day workshop of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) held at the auditorium of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) Inn the city.
He said the agriculture scientists should carry out more research work for innovation of new variety of high yielding variety of rice for boosting rice production in Bangladesh.
The agriculture scientists had outstanding contributions in the field of country's agriculture during the last three decades for the development of the sector, Badruddoza said.
"Scientists should carry out more research in the context of climate change and Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) can play an important role in this regard," he said.
A total of 150 scientists are taking part in the two-day workshop organised by BSA.
President of BAS Dr M Shamsher Ali called upon the young scientists to come forward in strengthening the research works. He also highlighted the activities of scientists of BAS in the workshop.
Emeritus Scientist Dr Shah Md Hasan-uz-Zaman and Director of BARC MA Majed, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Secretary of BAS Professor Nayeem Chowdhury urged the scientists to adopt time befitting recommendations in the workshop.
Research papers on crops, fisheries, livestock and forests and modern biology have been submitted in the workshop for adopting different recommendations.
