Scouts to register all members by June \\\'15

FE Report | March 06, 2014 00:00:00

The Bangladesh Scouts has taken a move to register its all members in collaboration with the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

The national scouting organisation will conduct a pilot survey on membership registration in Manikganj district shortly.

Statistics and Informatics Division (SID) Secretary Md. Nojibur Rahman told the FE: "We're supporting the project technically, as it will help keep us updated about the scout members."

He said BBS might involve the scout members in different census and surveys.

"Actually, we don't have any idea about strength of the scout members in the country, although the movement has been going on for long," Mr Rahman said.

An 18-member membership registration committee has already been formed under the leadership of the SID secretary.

Kazi Nazmul Hoque Nazu, a national deputy commissioner of Bangladesh Scouts, has been selected vice president of the committee.

Mr. Nazu said tentative deadline for completing the registration work is June 2015.

He said the registration will have all necessary data of each scout member of Bangladesh, which is the fifth largest country in terms of scout membership.

Scouting was founded in Bangladesh as part of the British Indian branch of The Scout Association, and continued as part of the Pakistan Boy Scouts Association until 1971.

Following its independence, Bangladesh became a member of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement in 1974. The organisation has 1,015,116 members as of 2011.
