A scuffle broke out between the hall union leaders and the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) members at Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall of Dhaka University (DU) over a banner dispute.
The incident occurred at the main gate of the hall at around 10:00 pm on Tuesday.
According to sources, a banner was put up on Monday by the Mohsin Hall Union, accusing Robin Hossain, joint convener of the JCD hall unit, of being involved in the assault on journalist Md. Julhas Kabir, who serves as the literary and cultural secretary of the hall union, in Shahbag area. The banner included Robin's photograph.
The JCD members later removed the banner. When the hall union leaders attempted to reinstall it on Tuesday, tensions escalated between the two sides, eventually leading to a physical altercation.
Earlier, a similar banner displaying the alleged attacker's photo had been put up by the hall union leaders, but it was later found torn down.
Attempts to contact the hall provost, Prof Sirajul Islam, for comments were unsuccessful despite multiple calls.
