BANDARBAN, July 6 (UNB): Security forces exchanged fire with terrorists during their combing operation to rescue the abducted DANIDA official at Thanchi Upazila here early Friday.
They exchanged gunfire for about an hour at 3 to 4 km west of Yangrai BDR camp.
Security forces arrested one of the abductors, Mongcho, along with an AK-47 assault rifle from the spot. The other terrorists fled the scene along with the abducted official of Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), a donor agency.
None was injured during the firing. Security forces later cordoned off the area near Rorangdong hill of Yangrai.
Armed criminals abducted DANIDA official Hossain Shahid Sumon and his car driver Mohammad Hanif from Kyu Bu Ri Para in Thanchi on June 25.
The driver was rescued three days after the incident.
