Seminar airs concern over use of poly bags

Widespread use of plastic products, including polythene bags, is seriously pushing the country's environmental situation into danger, speakers said at a seminar on Tuesday.

According to an estimation of Poribesh Bachao Andolon (POBA), around 20 million polythene bags are dumped in the Dhaka city only.

Such uncontrolled use of plastics is one of the key reasons for waterlogging and environmental pollution in the capital city.

Keeping this in view, the organisation called for strict enforcement of existing laws to prevent use of plastic bags.
