Seminar on sanitation coverage held

GOPALGANJ July 20: A seminar was held on sanitation coverage of Jhutia village under Kotalipara Upazila in Gopalganj recently.
The seminar was organised by Aloshikha, a well known NGO of Kotalipara.
Upazila Chairman Bimol Krishna Biswas was present as chief guest, while Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kabir Mahamud as special guest.
Earlier, eighty per cent of the villagers of Jhutia defecated in the open and most of the others of the locality used the lake, marshy land and canal for the purpose. The organisation in its survey of 250 families of Jhutia village found them cent per cent covered sanitation-wise.
In 2008 to 2009 the organisation provided 20 deep tube-wells and established 400 hygienic latrines in the community for people's access to safe drinking water and sanitary latrine.
