Senior journo Sheikh Rakib Uddin dies

Veteran journalist Sheikh Rakib Uddin died at a city hospital on Saturday. He was 85, reports UNB.
Rakib Uddin, diplomatic correspondent of The Independent and also founder vice-president of Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB), breathed his last at Birdem Hospital at 5:30 am.
He had been suffering from various old- age complications.
The namaj-e-janaza of Rakib Uddin was held at the National Press Club at 11:30 am.
He worked at the United News of Bangladesh (UNB) and Daily Azad (as chief reporter).
Rakib Uddin, also a member of the Jatiya Press Club, was buried at Azimpur grave yard after Zohr prayers.
Meanwhile, DCAB has expressed deep shock at the sad demise of Sheikh Rakib Uddin.
DCAB President Rezaul Karim Lotus and its secretary general Mahfuzur Rahman Mishu, in a condolence message on Saturday, conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members and sought salvation of the departed soul.
The DCAB with deep respect recalls the valuable contributions he made towards DCAB, it said.
