The Dhaka metropolitan unit of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir staged a protest rally in the capital on Monday against the suspension of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Central Students' Union (SUCSU) and hall council elections.
The procession began from the Central Shaheed Minar in the afternoon, and concluded with a brief rally at Shahbag intersection.
Speaking at the rally, Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) Vice-President Abu Shadik Kayem said, "Attempting to stop an election out of fear of defeat is unacceptable. Standing in front of the Election Commission and opposing voters to halt an election is something the students will never accept."
Jagannath University Central Students' Union (JnUCSU) VP Riazul Islam said although the election was scheduled to proceed as planned, a group is now attempting to stop it.
