CHITTAGONG, April 9: Bangladesh Shramik League, Chittagong city unit today demanded removal of CDA chairman Abdus Salam for his alleged corruption and nepotism in Chittagong Development Authority (CDA).

They have given an ultimatum to the government to remove Abdus Salam and restore peace and tranquility in the CDA, take steps to free the development agency from corrupt officials in a week or face stringent agitation for indefinite period.

Meanwhile, a gang of youths allegedly from Salam's native area Mohra near Kalurghat staged a counter demonstration against the Shramik League workers in front of the CDA that left suspension of the traffic in the busy Kotwali police station intersection in the city for more than an hour.

Shramik League leaders alleged that hired goons of CDA chairman have attacked their demonstration to foil the anti-Salam programme. The Kotwali police quickly intercepted and restored normalcy in traffic movement in the area after an hour.

Several hundred workers of Shramik League, labour front of the ruling Awami League (AL), staged demonstration and formed human chain in front of the CDA Wednesday afternoon.

During the programme a protest rally was held at the venue with president of the City Shramik League Bakhtiar Uddin Khan in the chair.
