A Dhaka court sent Saturday sub-inspector (SI) Jahidur Rahman Khan of Mipur Model Police Station to jail in a case filed in connection with the custodial death of a young trader, reports UNB.

Metropolitan Magistrate Nuru Miah passed the order after SI Jahid refused to confess to his involvement in the death of Mahbubur Rahman Sujan, who used to deal in garment scraps, in police custody. Detective Branch (DB) of police inspector Nibaron Chandra Barman produced the police officer before the court in the morning on completion of his two-day remand with a prayer to record his confessional statement.

Following the petition, the magistrate gave Jahid some time to be ready to give the statement.

However, the police officer declined to confess his part in the custodial death when the magistrate called him to give his statement after two hours.
