Six prisoners, one cop die in Gazipur road crash

GAZIPUR, May 25 (UNB): At least seven people-six prisoners and one policeman were killed and 10 others injured as a bus hit a human-hauler carrying them on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway at Porabari in the city Monday.

Three of the deceased were identified as Mostafa Kamal, 58, a constable of Sreepur police station, and two accused-Momin Uddin, 28, of Rajendrapur and Sohel Miah, 26, of Maijpara in Sreepur Upazila of the district.

Highway police and hospital sources said the human-hauler carrying the 13 prisoners and some policemen got smashed being hit by the bus around 4.0 pm when the prisoners were being taken to a court from Sreepur police station, leaving the six accused dead on the spot and 11 others, including constable Mostafa, injured.
