Smart Surgical Blade developed for cataract surgery

Opthalmologists with the newly developed Smart Surgical Blade to be used for combined surgery (Glaucoma+Sics)

An innovative device, called Smart Surgical Blade, first of its kind in Bangladesh, has been developed by Dr Natwarsingh P Parihar of Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital, Dhaka for taking incision for small incision cataract surgery, according to a press release.
It gives perfect frown shaped incision with predetermined depth and desired length. It is developed with an intention to reduce the astigmatism after sics surgery. Furthermore, it can be used for combined surgery (Glaucoma + Sics ). It is smart, reliable, reproducible, cost- effective and surgeon- friendly.
Dr Natwarsingh is a fellow in retina department from India. The smart blade is used by the experienced surgeons and they are highly satisfied with the work and post operative surgical outcome after cataract surgery, according to the release.
The upcoming ophthalmologists who come for training are benefited with the device and it helped in learning cataract surgery very fast. It has reduced the complications like scleral perforation and superficial incision which occurs while taking incision, the release added.
It adds accuracy to the surgery and gives confidence to the surgeon on Sunday. Smart Blade was inaugurated at Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute & Hospital launched by hospital CEO Mr Mridul Kumar Sarkar , medical director Dr Mostafizur Rahman, retina specialist Dr Mominul Islam in presence of all the hospital directors, head of the department and all other doctors.
