Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh on Wednesday said some of the projects of the corporation were undertaken without conducting feasibility studies.

When answering questions on the environment-friendly foot-over bridges under the CASE project, plants of which soon disappeared after the construction, the mayor said the foot-over bridges should be visited during the construction period to evaluate their appropriateness.

Because there were many projects undertaken without conducting feasibility studies.

Those projects which are undertaken without any viability study are implemented poorly resulting in ineffectiveness, he added.

The mayor made the comments while briefing the media after visiting six under-construction foot-over bridges in Holy Family Hospital area, Matsya Bhaban, Shakharibazar, Nayabazar, Mayor Hanif Flyover and toll plaza at Demra.

There is a big necessity of foot-over bridge at the Matsya Bhaban intersection and in front of the High Court.

The mayor ordered to complete the construction work of these two bridges quickly.

Mr Taposh said construction work of some bridges has not started yet while there is undue delay in implementing some.

Construction of the foot-over bridge in front of Dhaka Medical College Hospital has not started yet, only lift floor has been completed.

There are two such foot-over bridges with lifts for which there should have been done feasibility study to assess their effectiveness and how many people will use those, he added.

"We are looking into this type of issues so that there can be no corruption involved here and people can enjoy their benefit," he said.
