Speakers urge all to work unitedly for prevention of TB

Speakers at a roundtable Saturday urged all to work unitedly for the prevention of tuberculosis (TB), reports BSS.
The speakers made the appeal at the roundtable on "Tuberculosis Control Programme: Participation of Media" jointly organised by Bangladesh Mahila Sangbadik Forum (BMSF) and BRAC Advocacy and Human Rights at BRAC centre in the city Saturday.
Programme Manager (TB) of National Tuberculosis Control Programme Mohammad Abdul Awal Mia attended the roundtable as the chief guest while BMSF President Rashida Amin presided over it.
Secretary general of NATAB Dr Sakhawat Hossain and director of BRAC Human Resources Department Shipa Hafiz attended the roundtable as the special guests.
In charge of BRAC Advocacy and Human Rights Unit Sheikh Mazibul Haque conducted the roundtable while Dr Rafiul Alam presented a keynote paper.
Deputy programme manager of National Tuberculosis Control Programme Dr Viqarunnesa Begum, Dr Asif Muztoba Mahmud, Dr Akramul Islam, Dr Saif Uddin Ben Nur and Dr Sabera Sultana also spoke, among others, at the roundtable.
A total of 22 women journalists took part in the roundtable.
Abdul Awal said messages on tuberculosis would be disseminated to all through journalists.
He said it is essential to work and campaign against tuberculosis, AIDS and Malaria throughout world.
Rashida Amin stressed the need for taking government and private initiatives to prevent the disease.
She said journalists could play a vital role in the prevention and cure of tuberculosis by raising awareness about the disease through their informative writings or reports.
