Special focus on graduate employability, women’s edn

University Grants Commission (UGC) has laid special focus on working for graduate employability and women education in Bangladesh.

The UGC discussed the issues at a view-exchange meeting on the proposed 'Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT)'project on Sunday.

The meeting was held in association with World Bank (WB) aiming to accelerate the five-year long HEAT project, especially on graduate employability and women's education.

UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan chaired the programme at his office.

He said HEAT project is expected to make a breakthrough in Bangladesh's higher education through capacity building and enhancing employability of the graduates.

"HEAT will enhance the employability of our graduates through development of the regional network and will improve the system of governance in our higher education," he added.

UGC is sincere about increasing its participation in improvement of the quality of higher education of women in Bangladesh, he said.

A silent revolution has taken place in women education over the years in Bangladesh, he said, adding UGC is now focusing on skill development for job-oriented education of the graduates.

WB Senior Operations Officer Dr Mokhlesur Rahman sought UGC's support to identify the reforms activities and action plans of the project.

The core goals of HEAT project are to establish a regional network of higher education institutions, improve teaching, learning and research to support graduate employability and improve the higher education management of the country.

Among others, UGC Secretary Dr Md Khaled, WB lead economist Dr Venkatesh Sundararaman, WB representatives from USA, China, India, Nepal and Afghanistan and high-officials from UGC were also present at the event.
