Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Saturday the results of the SSC and its equivalent examinations would have been much better if the examinations had not been affected by hartal and blockade enforced by the BNP-Jamaat alliance, reports UNB.
"Examinees faced serious trouble during the SSC exams due to frequent shifting of their exam schedules. If they had not been affected, the overall results would have been much better," she said.
The prime minister came up with the remarks while speaking at the SSC result handover ceremony at her official residence Ganobhaban. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid formally handed over the results of the 10 education boards to the prime minister.
"I had hoped the results would be better than the previous year. However, the results were not as much as I expected due to the blockades and hartals enforced by the BNP-Jamaat combine," she said.
This year, the overall pass rate in the SSC is 87.04 per cent while the rate was 93 per cent last year.
The prime minister said the 87.04 per cent pass rate is a great achievement considering the obstructions caused by the destructive politics of the BNP-Jamaat alliance during the exam period. Strongly warning the BNP-Jamaat alliance against playing with the fate of the country's people, Sheikh Hasina categorically said whoever wants to do it will not be spared and shown any mercy.
"I hope the BNP-Jamaat will refrain from playing with the people's fate, let there be no such incident of playing ducks and drakes with the lives of people. If anything happens like this, we surely won't spare anyone… there'll be no mercy for them," she said.
