Steps taken for uninterrupted power supply in div cities

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said Thursday the government has set up eight power plants under government and private initiatives to supply uninterrupted power in all divisional cities, including Dhaka and Chittagong, reports BSS.
"These power plants have been dedicated for generating 588MW electricity in all divisional cities, including Dhaka and Chittagong, on priority basis," he said while replying to a tabled question from a treasury bench member Didarul Alam in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS).
Besides, the government is implementing a 10-city power distribution project, central zone power distribution project and urban power project under the Bangladesh Power Development Board to improve the power distribution management, Hamid told the House.
He said the development work for improvement of power distribution system in the divisional cities is under process.
Meanwhile, Mr Hamid on the day that 63 per cent population of the country under smooth power supply.
"The government has taken various initiatives to ensure smooth power supply for all citizens of the country within 2021," he said while replying to a tabled question from a treasury bench member Israfil Alam in the Jatiya Sangsad.
He said the government is implementing various projects to generate 24,000MW electricity by 2021, Nasrul told the House.
"We have to generate additional 15,000MW electricity to ensure power supply for all citizens across the country within 2021 and the government needs about Taka 1,50,000 crore for it," he said.
The state minister said the ministry is working to improve power transmission capacity and expand distribution lines to supply generated electricity among new subscribers across the country.
