Communications Minister Obaidul Quader Monday said coordinated steps will be taken to prevent road accidents and ease jams, reports UNB.

He said the cabinet committee on road safety will discuss the steps at its next meeting on February 26.

The minister's remarks came during a visit to New Market area of the capital city to witness traffic jams.

Obaidul Quader said that the government is determined to make the country's roads and highways safer for traveling.

Terming battery-run rickshaws more dangerous than unfit vehicles, Obaidul Quader directed the authorities to stop them from main roads.

The minister directed the authorities concerned to develop drainage system in the New Market areas.

He called for evicting unauthorized shops and kitchen markets from streets as these often contribute to traffic jams.
