Students of seven Dhaka University-affiliated colleges on Tuesday blocked Nilkhet-New Market intersection for hours to press home a seven-point demand.

The demands included publication of results within three months into exams.

The agitating students took to the street around 11:00 am and left the place around 3:00 pm.

The blockade created a gridlock on Mirpur road and also in other areas as a spillover.

Vehicles came to a halt on the road, with students allowing only school-college vehicles to go through.

The admission-seekers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) suffered most for congestion amid the student movement.

Meanwhile, a 10-member delegation of the agitators met Supriya Bhattacharya, coordinator of those affiliated colleges and principal of Eden Women's College, to press home their demands.

Taslim Chowdhury, coordinator of the agitating students, said most of the students suffered as the authorities could not publish results in due time.

"We have met with Supriya ma'am who assured us of fulfilling our demands. There is a scheduled meeting and we hope that the decision will resolve our problems," he added.

Their other demands included publication of results of all departments together and an academic calendar with crash programmes to address the session jam issue.

The affiliates are Dhaka College, Eden College, Govt Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Govt College, Begum Badrunnesa Govt Girls' College, Mirpur Govt Bangla College and Govnt Titumir College.
