Sufia Kamal showed how to stand by society: Speakers

The integrity poet Begum Sufia Kamal showed to serve society being neutral from any political affiliation has largely been absent among political leaders nowadays.

Poet Sufia Kamal was acceptable to all irrespective of religion, cast and class because of her integrity to serve humanity.

Renowned human rights activist advocate Sultana Kamal, also daughter of Sufia Kamal, said this while addressing a programme commemorating the 24th death anniversary of the poet.

"I find a big gap of integrity among political leaders and supporters. Now, they are strategic… and integrity is totally lost in society," she added.

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP), which was founded by poet Sufia Kamal, hosted the event at its office on Tuesday with BMP president Dr Fauzia Moslem in the chair.

Others spoke on the occasion are BMP general secretary Maleka Begum, joint secretary advocate Masuda Rehana Begum and research officer Afroza Arman.
