Bangladesh will face acute problem to get safe drinking water as the surface water is being polluted everyday in our country.

The observation came at a workshop organised by JU Environmental Science with the assistance of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) sub project-2334 at Zahir Raihan auditorium of Jahanginagar University (JU) Saturday.

JU Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Farzana Islam inaugurated the programme as chief guest.

Speakers at the workshop also urged the owners of the industries not to discharge industrial wastes into the rivers and take necessary steps to save surface water from pollution.

Prof Khabir Uddin, a teacher of Environmental Science, also the convener of the workshop,   said "Almost all the industries do not use Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) facilities, causing the ground water pollution.

If all industries could have used ETP, surface water would be saved from pollution, he added.

JU VC said, "Human life will be threatened very soon if it fails to get safe drinking water."

Among others,  JU pro-VC Dr Abul Hossain, Registrar  Abu Bakar Siddique , Director General of Environment Department Raisul Alam Mondal and Md. Director General of RDA of Bogra Abdul Matin also attended the workshop.
