Taxpayers outside the capital are yet to get the electronic tax deducted at source (e-TDS) facilities launched last month.

Although the system has been launched amid huge enthusiasm across the country, its integration with the scheduled banks is yet to be done, said tax consultants.

Jasim Uddin Rasell, member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB), said the corporate taxpayers would be able to benefit from the e-TDS system after completion of the integration process.

"We have to submit numerous documents by phases in the whole year. Same documents have to be submitted several times causing unusual hassle," said the tax expert.

A corporate taxpayer has several financial documents that they need to submit multiple times to the tax authority manually, he added.

Currently, corporate taxpayers have to submit 26 types of reports manually to the taxmen in a year.

Responding to the issue, a senior tax official said the NBR would train up the taxmen outside the capital on e-TDS system.

A letter in this regard has been issued on Monday to expedite the move, he added.

In the letter, the NBR instructed all of its tax offices to complete necessary procedures to make best use of the e-TDS system.

The ICT wing of the NBR also issued password and user ID to the tax zones, requesting them to log in the site: www.etds.gov.bd/login/admin and help the corporate taxpayers or the tax deducting authorities register in the system.

The NBR launched the electronic e-TDS system early last month to facilitate 350,000 taxpayers, mostly corporate taxpayers, in deducting tax at source in a simplified way and depositing it to the public exchequer.

The NBR collects 64 per cent of its direct tax as TDS.

A 21-member team of tax officials has developed the e-TDS system through interconnecting with the automated challan or AChallan system of the finance ministry.

The e-TDS system needs integration with the online tax returns and e-payment system to make it more successful.
