The state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) is set start a drive of selling key essentials at subsided prices today (Monday) ahead of the Eid-ul-Adha.
The sales drive would be conducted through 720 trucks, including 50 trucks in Dhaka city (including Dhaka district), 20 in Chittagong city, 15 each in other 06 divisional cities and related districts and 10 in the remaining 56 districts.
Commerce minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir will inaugurate the sales drive today at Agargaon Area in the city.
The drive would continue until May 21, 2026, according to a statement issued by the commerce ministry on Sunday.
Under the drive, some 13939 tonnes of key essential goods are expected to be sold among 2.88 beneficiaries.
A consumer will be able to buy maximum two liters of soybean oil at Tk 130 per liter, one kilogramme (kg) of sugar at Tk 80 per kg and two kgs of lentils at Tk 70 per kg from the trucks.
On the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Adha, about 34,848 tonnes of specific essential products will be sold among nearly 7.2 million smart cardholders at subsidised prices in the current month (May), according to officials.
However, the quantity and price of edible oil, sugar, and lentils, which are sold at subsidised rates among the smart-cardholder families every month, will remain unchanged.
The sales drive of key essential items among the smart card holders is now going on.
