There is scope for EU to invest in potential sectors: President

The new ambassadors of the European Union (EU) and Sweden have assured Bangladesh of continuation of their support and cooperation for its development, report agencies.
They made the assurance when new EU ambassador to Bangladesh Pierre Mayaudon and Sweden ambassador Johan Frisell separately presented their credentials to President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban Monday, said President's press secretary Ihsanul Karim.
Welcoming EU ambassador Pierre Mayaudon, the President expressed the hoped that the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the EU would strengthen further in the days ahead under his able leadership.
The President stressed on exchanging of parliamentary delegation between Bangladesh and the EU to promote interaction between the two sides. There is scope for the EU to invest in different potential sectors, including pharma and leather, in Bangladesh, the President added.
Abdul Hamid appreciated the EU's continued support in providing duty-free and quota-free access for the LDCs in the EU market under its EBA arrangement.
Pierre Mayaudon said he will work for enhancing the EU's cooperation in different fields in Bangladesh.
The President welcomed new Swedish Ambassador Johan Frisell. Highly appreciated the support and cooperation the Swedish government is presently extending, the President hoped that the bilateral relations between the two countries would continue to strengthen in the future.
Johan Frisell assured that Sweden would continue its support for the development of Bangladesh. About Bangladesh export to Sweden, the ambassador said Bangladesh needs to diversify its exports to Sweden for gaining more benefits.
