Three dacoits killed in gunfight with police

MANIKGANJ, Sept 16 (UNB): Three suspected dacoits were killed n an encounter with police at Charbhanga in the Jamuna river here Saturday night.
The dead were identified as Khaleq Fakir, 30, Abdul Mannan, 32, and Sumon, 33.
Two Sub Inspectors of police and six other dacoits were also injured during the fierce gunfight.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Daulatpur thana police challenged a dacoit gang who were preparing to commit a robbery at Charbhanga with an engine boat when the dacoits fired on the police at about 10pm.
The law enforcers also fired back triggering a fierce gunfight that lasted for about an hour in which 40 rounds of bullet were exchanged.
Khaleq and Mannan received bullet during the exchange of fire and died on the spot while Sumon who also received bullet died in a mass beating by the local people.
