Three die as rail engine runs over them in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 29: Three people, including a four-month-old baby, were killed under the wheels of a railway engine at Sitakunda of the district on Sunday night.

Mother of the baby sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The dead are Abul Kashem (48), his daughter Soma Akhtar and Md Shahidul (55), a worker of the Abul Khair Steel Mills Ltd.

Sitakunda police said the incident happened at a place between Bhatiary and Madam Bibir Hat at around 8.45 pm on Sunday when the victims were walking along the railway tracks.

A railway engine was moving towards them from behind and hit the people killing three of them on the spot and injuring a woman, they added.

The injured is Roksana Begum (36), wife of deceased Abul Kashem, was rushed to the nearby Ship Breakers' Association Hospital and later moved to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
